NEMO is a maritime traffic information management system in Finland that has been under construction for years. NEMO is used for the mandatory reporting of visiting ships.

The person is testing the Nemo program on a computer.

Above all, NEMO will change the way in which the statutory declarations for port calls are made: the information relating to the reporting obligation will be entered into the system only once, from where it will automatically be passed on to several different recipients. Manual work via telephone and e-mail will be reduced and there will no longer be a need to enter the information several times in different systems.

Maritime Logistics Research Center of Satakunta University of Applied Sciences is participating in the development and research work of NEMO in the NEMO CEF project (22-FI-TG-NEMO-EMSW). NEMO CEF project is led by Fintraffic Vessel Traffic Services Ltd and Traficom is an associate partner.  As part of the NEMO CEF project, SAMK's Maritime Logistics Research Center is involved in testing the NEMO system in various roles. The system will be evaluated and tested from different perspectives. Stakeholders involved in the testing will have the opportunity to provide feedback on the system via the feedback form used in the project.

Currently, the testing is focused on the declarations that each ship or ship representative must make for each port call. Declarations are, for example, port call declarations, security declarations, ship waste declarations, passenger lists, crew lists, ship inventory lists, crew storage lists, marine health declarations, cargo declarations on arrival and departure, and dangerous goods declarations. The testing aspect of SAMK is currently in the agent's role. Technical fixes and other usability improvements identified during testing will be worked through in collaboration with the NEMO project development team.

The test team will continue to include NEMO stakeholders as well.
