Research Manager Minna Keinänen-Toivola was invited as one of the speakers on the stage to open the role of the Maritime Logistics Research Centre in maintaining and ensuring the well-being of the Baltic Sea in ” Puhtaa mere pualest! Ja jazzii kans!” (For a Clean Sea! And a little jazz with it) discussion.
Euro-ZA is a project aiming at capacity building in the field of maritime education. All the six EURO-ZA partners from Europe, UK and South Africa have a long history in maritime education – some European partners over 100 years. This short story outlines a few thoughts and ideas that arose from the project that is ending at the end of July 2022.
The Finnish maritime cluster in which shipping companies, research and training operate hand in hand is a unique combination and receives a lot of respect in international circles as well. In the spring, a small group of students from Cape Verde arrived in Finland to learn about the cluster activities.
The SME Aisle project, funded by the Interreg Central Baltic and coordinated by the Satakunta University of Applied Sciences, was launched in 2018 to support the SMEs of the Finnish, Swedish, Estonian and Latvian maritime clusters in accessing Namibia as a gateway to the Southern African region. The project has carried out a number of export promotion trips, researched the target countries’ business opportunities and sought solutions to support SME trade in the Southern African Development Community market.
The Maritime Logistics Research Center was launched in early 2021 to respond to the development needs of the maritime transport and logistics sector and to contribute to the growth strategy of the Satakunta region. The first year of research and development has been successful. The center has consolidated its position and strengthened the development prospects of the sector.
